What the stamp on your gold means
Gold is valued by how much pure gold it contains and how much it weighs, and the price of gold changes every day. A broken 14K chain is worth the same per gram as a whole one.

Stamps like GP (gold plated), GF (gold filled), HGE or RGP mean a thin layer of gold over another metal, not solid gold. Many older and imported pieces carry no stamp at all. Bring them anyway: a jeweler can test the metal.
